Teaching Woodwinds

Each week, every student should observe at least one lesson or masterclass, either in person or online. Take notes about any effective or ineffective teaching moments you notice.

Learning Objectives

  1. Learners will be able to identify the woodwind instruments and describe the correct playing position for each.
  2. Learners will be able to explain and demonstrate how to make sound on various woodwind mouthpieces.
  3. Learners will be able to explain the role of the air, lips, tongue, and jaw in sound production.
  4. Learners will recognize common beginner-level playing problems and suggest reasonable solutions.
  5. Learners will be able to list and describe warm up or maintenance exercises.
  6. Learners will add material about woodwind playing into their Toolbox.
